	What is Tolnaftate? Tolnaftate is the first thiocarbamate antifungal agent on the market. Tolnaftate inhibits squalene cyclooxygenase in the fungal ergosterol synthesis pathway, resulting in the blockage of ergosterol synthesis. Ergosterol is an important component of fungal cell membranes and is essential for fungal growth and survival. Tolnaftate is thought to have only bacteriostatic activity.
	Application & Function Tolnaftate is mainly used as a topical antifungal agent for superficial skin fungal infections, including tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis and tinea versicolor. However, it is not effective against fungal infections of hair and finger (toe) nails.
