What's Monensin? 

Monensin is a feed additive widely used in ruminants. It can control the proportion of volatile fatty acids in the rumen, reduce protein degradation in the rumen, reduce feed dry matter consumption, improve nutrient utilization and increase animal energy utilization. etc. The molecular formula is C36H61O11 and the molecular weight is 670. The premix is yellow-brown granules or powder.

Application & Function of Monensin

Monensin is a polyether ionophore antibiotic mainly used to prevent and treat coccidiosis in chickens, lambs, calves, and rabbits and to promote the growth of ruminants. Monensin can affect the ion balance of the worm body, causing the worm body to rupture and die. On the second day after infection, the coccidia develop to the first-generation schizont stage. Monensin can also improve feed utilization and weight gain by increasing ruminal production. Monensin has a strong effect on Gram-positive bacteria (especially Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, and Bacillus subtilis) and Treponema hyodysenteriae, but its effect in animals is weak and it is not suitable for antibacterial use.

Other uses:
Prevent and control coccidiosis in chickens, lambs, calves, and rabbits;
Combined with bacitracin zinc and flavomycin, it can improve weight gain rate and feed utilization rate.
