What is Lactoferrin? Lactoferrin (LF) is a 75 to 80 kDa non-heme iron-binding glycoprotein that was produced about 125 million years ago when placentals and marsupials diverged, and is the youngest member of the transferrin family due to its high homology with transferrin. It has been found that LF proteins have various biological functions, including broad-spectrum antibacterial, antiviral and antitumor effects, and are related to many important physiological processes in the body, such as regulating the balance of iron in the body, regulating bone marrow cell production, promoting cell growth, regulating the body's immune function, enhancing the body's resistance to disease, anti-hypertensive activity, and acting synergistically with various antibiotics and antifungal agents. |
