Icariin is extracted from the dried stems and leaves of Epimedium, Epimedium, Epimedium Wushan, Epimedium Korean, etc.Appearance is light yellow needle crystal, melting point 231 -- 232ºC, soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, insoluble in ether, benzene, chloroform.The aboveground part of Epimedium mainly contains flavonoids, while the underground part mainly contains flavonoids and alkaloids.In addition, there are hundreds of chemical constituents in Epimedium, including lignans, anthraquinones, anthocyanins, sesquiterpenes, phenylethanol glycosides, polysaccharides, glucose, fructose, phytosterol, palmitic acid, stearic acid, linolenic acid, potassium chloride, etc. These constituents are distributed in different plants of Epimedium.[1] Icarin can increase the blood flow of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular vessels, promote hematopoietic function, immune function and bone metabolism, and has the effects of tonifying kidney, impotence and anti-aging, etc.
