Carbocisteine is a mucolytic agent that can be used in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) studies.
Carbocisteine is a mucus thinning agent, similar to bromohexaxine, which mainly affects the secretion of bronchial glands at the cellular level. It can break the disulphide bond of mucin in the mucus, increase the secretion of low viscosity sialomucin, and reduce the production of fucomucin with high viscosity, thus reducing the viscosity of sputum and facilitating the excretion of sputum. Oral effect is fast, 4 hours after the obvious effect can be seen. It is widely distributed in lung tissue and excreted in urine as prototype and metabolite.
