Product Description 1. Diosmin is a derivative of the semi-synthetic flavonoid, hesperidin. It is used to treat a variety of vascular disorders, including hemorrhoids, varicose veins, poor circulation in the legs (venous stasis) and bleeding from the eyes or gums (hemorrhage). It is also used to prevent hepatotoxicity. It is usually mixed with hesperidin. This variety is currently prescribed in some European countries and sold as a nutritional supplement in the United States. 2. Hesperidin is a flavonoid found in citrus fruits such as mandarin, lemon or grapefruit fruits. The rind and membranous parts of these fruits contain the highest levels of hesperidin, especially in small unripe citrus fruits. It is one of the color and flavor components of citrus fruits. Flavonoid hesperidins are flavanone glycosides (glucosides) composed of flavanones (a flavonoid) graminic acid and disaccharide brassinolide. Flavonoids are polyphenols, antioxidants found in plants that are essential to human health. In addition to its antioxidant properties, hesperidin is used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, hypolipidemic, and vasoprotective compound. It appears to reduce the symptoms of allergies and hay fever by inhibiting the production of histamine in the blood. Hesperidin, in combination with diosmin, is used in Europe to treat venous insufficiency and hemorrhoids.
