What is Melanotan II?

Melanotan 2 (also known as Melanotan II) is a synthetically produced variant of a peptide hormone naturally produced in our body that stimulates melanogenesis, which is responsible for pigmentation of the skin. This peptide hormone, called alpha-Melanocyte stimulating hormone or MSH, activates certain melanocortin receptors in the process of exerting its effects.
Indeed, MSH also brings out potent benefits of lipid metabolism, appetite, via these melanocortin receptors.
Hence, Melanotan 2 has been shown in studies to exhibit appetite suppressant, lipolytic,  effects in addition to promoting skin tanning. Melanotan 2 has been researched extensively to use in protecting against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation from sunlight because of its melanogenesis-stimulating features.

Tanning is very popular in today's society and is associated with a healthy and happy image. People only need to look at billboards or popular TV series to see the ideal tanning physique related to health and reputation. However, this is not always the case. A tanned skin tone was a fashion trend of two-thirds in the late 20th century. In the 19th century, tanned skin was associated with field workers and the working class. The pale skin of the middle class and nobility is consistent with their socio-economic status and social activities. In the 20th century, this situation reversed, and those who did not tan were those who could not afford their holidays. The darker your skin, the longer it takes to tan, the better. The gossip magazine showcased influential figures of the time, with antique bronze skin, enjoying a long vacation on the idyllic beach. This is naturally reflected in the increasing tourism industry among the general public towards sunny destinations. Over the years, scientific progress has shown how harmful this fashion can be, as it can lead to photoaging and an increase in different types of skin cancer. Therefore, people from all walks of life who are unwilling to give up their long-awaited tanning effects are seeking alternative methods to achieve this goal. In this issue, Dr. Hueso and his colleagues reported a case of illegal use of a substance to increase melanin production. In this article, I will focus on introducing the drug Melanotan.
