Flucytosine is a white or almost white crystalline powder. The inhibitory effect of 5-fluorocytosine on fungi is due to the fact that it enters the cells of sensitive fungi, and under the action of cytosine deaminase, it is de-amino to form 5-fluorouracil, an anti-metabolite. Later, Chemicalbook people changed to 5-fluorouracil deoxynucleoside and inhibited thymidine synthase, blocked the conversion of uracil deoxynucleoside to thymidine, and affected DNA synthesis. It has a good inhibitory effect on Candida, Cryptococcus and Geotrichum. It also has an effect on some Aspergillus, as well as Mycosporum and Phial fungus that cause dermatophytes.
