What is Streptomycin Sulphate    ?

Streptomycin sulfate is an aminocyclitol glycoside antibiotic which interferes with protein synthesis in prokaryotes. This Streptomycin sulfate antibiotic is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and is frequently used in cell culture media. Streptomycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit at the S12 protein thereby inducing a misreading of the genetic code, inhibiting the initiation of translation of DNA which then results in death for a susceptible bacterium.
Streptozotocin is a natural compound produced by Streptococcus and is particularly toxic to insulin-producing islet B cells in the pancreas of mammals. It is a nitrosourea antibiotic.
STZ can form isocyanates in the body. Thereby, it binds to the nucleic acid protein, inhibits the activity of the DNA polymerase, and makes the damaged DNA difficult to repair.

Application of streptozotocin:
A compound containing N- nitroso, which acts as a donor of nitric oxide in pancreatic islets; Inducing the death of insulin-secreting cells that produce diabetic animal model. Efficient DNA methylation reagent can induce chromosome breakage. It is cytotoxic to neuroendocrine tumor cell lines expressing GLUT2 glucose transporter. In medical research, streptozotocin is used to induce Type1 diabetes. In medical research, streptozotocin is used to induce Type1 diabetes.
