Use for :  

1. To treat various types of glaucoma and reduce the intraocular pressure before anti-glaucoma and some intraocular surgery, it is an effective intraocular pressure lowering auxiliary drug for short-term control of the increase of intraocular pressure in various types of glaucoma.  

2. For cardiogenic edema.  It is also used in cerebral edema to reduce the production of cerebrospinal fluid.  

3. Treatment of peptic ulcer, can inhibit gastric acid secretion.  

4. Use it in major and minor seizures.  

5. It can also be used to treat acute mountain sickness and juvenile myoclonic epilepsy.  

6. Periodic paralysis of hypochloric alkalinemia and hypokalemia in heart failure.  

      

             Common side effects include numbness, ringing in the ears, loss of appetite, vomiting, and sleepiness.It is not recommended in those with significant kidney problems, liver problems, or who are allergic to sulfonamides.Acetazolamide is in the diuretic and carbonic anhydrase inhibitor families of medication. It works by decreasing the amount of hydrogen ions and bicarbonate in the body.
