Naphazoline ,White or nearly white crystalline powder. Bitter taste. Easy to dissolve in water, soluble in ethanol, difficult to dissolve in ether. Melting point: 254-260 ºC. A vasoactive drug that acts on the circulatory system and belongs to the class of adrenergic drugs. It has the pharmacological activity of constricting blood vessels and relieving swelling and congestion of the nasal mucosa. It is a direct acting alpha adrenergic agonist that can cause the dilated small arteries in the nose to contract, but has no effect on beta adrenergic receptors. After local application, the effect can appear within 10 minutes and last for 2-6 hours.
