Description: 
Cyproheptadine is a anti-allergic agent that counteracts the effects of histamine on blood vessels and bronchial smooth muscles, thereby eliminating allergy symptoms. Cyproheptadine can be used for allergic reactions such as urticaria, eczema, allergic and contact dermatitis, and itchy skin.
Cyproheptadine (Diphenylcycloheptadine) Cyproheptadine is an anti-allergic drug that counteracts the effect of histamine on blood vessels and bronchial smooth muscle in the body, thereby eliminating allergic symptoms. Cyproheptadine can be used for allergic reactions such as urticaria, eczema, allergic and contact dermatitis, and itchy skin.

It is white or light yellow crystalline powder, odorless and slightly bitter in taste. It is soluble in water, ethanol, chlororm, meanol, and almost insoluble in ether.
Pharmacology and application
Antihistamines have stronger H1 receptor antagonism than chlorpheniramine, and have mild to moderate anti-ECTkey=serotonin target=_blank>serotonin and anticholinergic effects. It can also stimulate appetite and increase weight.
Function Indication
It can be used for urticaria, eczema, allergic and contact dermatitis, skin itching, rhinitis, migraine, bronchial asthma, etc. Skin itching usually disappears within 2 to 3 days after taking the medicine. It also has a certain effect on Cushing's disease and acromegaly.

Usage and dosage
oral. Adults: 4-20 mg daily, divided into 3 to 4 times. Children: 2 to 6 years old, 2 mg each time, 2 to 3 times a day; 7 to 14 years old, 4 mg each time, 2 to 3 times a day.

(1). Cyproheptadine is used to treat allergic reactions (specifically hay fever).[6] It is also used to treat vasomotor mucosal edema, including vasomotor rhinitis and edema of the throat.
(2). It has shown effectiveness in the treatment of nightmares, including those related to post-traumatic stress disorder.
(3). It has been used in the management of moderate to severe cases of serotonin syndrome, a complex of symptoms associated with the use of serotonergic drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and monoamine oxidase inhibitors), and in cases of high levels of serotonin in the blood resulting from a serotonin-producing carcinoid tumor.
(4) .It can also be used as a preventive measure against migraine in children and adolescents.[15][16][17][18][19] In Australia this is the only indication for which cyproheptadine is subsidised by the PBS.
(5). It can relieve SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction and drug-induced hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).
(6). It is also used in the treatment of cyclical vomiting syndrome;
(7).Use of the drug can stimulate the appetite and may lead to weight gain, which is helpful for underweight people.
(8).According to a small study, cyproheptadine hydrochloride has been found to improve sleep, calmness, and mood and energy levels, and to improve both negative and (sometimes even) positive psychotic symptoms in a subgroup of chronic schizophrenics who did not respond (either completely or sufficiently) to other therapies.
(9). Cyproheptadine may improve akathisia in patients on antipsychotic medications.
(10).In clinical trials in which cyproheptadine was used as an adjunct to antipsychotic treatment for patients with schizophrenia, an improvement in negative symptoms was seen.
