Sodium salt and potassium salt are white crystalline powders; they are odorless or slightly specific and have hygroscopicity; they will fail quickly when exposed to acids, alkalis or oxidants, and the aqueous solution will easily fail when placed at room temperature. It is very soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in fatty oil or liquid paraffin. It has a bactericidal effect during the bacterial propagation period. It has a strong antibacterial effect on Gram-positive cocci (Streptococcus, pneumococcus, and sensitive Staphylococcus) and Gram-negative cocci (meningococcus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae). Penicillin sodium and potassium are not acid-resistant, poor oral absorption, and should not be used for oral administration.
