What is Thymosin? Thymosin is a group of physiologically active peptides secreted by thymus tissue. Thymosin is a small molecule peptide with non-specific immune effect which is found and purified from calf thymus gland in clinical use. Thymosin has the effect of regulating and enhancing the immune function of human cells, promoting the maturation of T lymphocytes in peripheral blood after mitogen activation, increasing the secretion of various lymphokines (such as: α, γ interferon, interleukin 2 and interleukin 3) by T cells after various antigens or mitogen activation, and increasing the level of lymphokine receptors on T cells. It also enhances lymphocyte responses through its activating effect on T4 helper cells. In addition, it may affect the chemotaxis of NK precursor cells, which become more cytotoxic after exposure to interferon. Thus, this product has the ability to modulate and enhance the immune function of human cells. |
