What is Econazole nitrate? Econazole nitrate is a pyrrole antifungal drug, a dechlorinated derivative of miconazole, which has antibacterial effect on Candida spp., Stachybotrys spp., Coccidioides spp., Histoplasma spp. and Sporotrichum spp. and also has antibacterial activity on Trichophyton spp. It has poor effect on Aspergillus, Schenk's spore filamentous bacteria, some dark spore family, Trichoderma spp. By interfering with the activity of cytochrome P450, it inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol, the main steroid of fungal cell membrane, which damages the fungal cell membrane and changes its permeability, resulting in the leakage of important intracellular substances. It can inhibit the biosynthesis of triacylglycerols and phospholipids in fungi, inhibit the activity of oxidase and peroxidase, and cause the accumulation of hydr*gen per*xide in cells, resulting in cellular sub-microstructure degeneration and cell necrosis. For Candida albicans, it inhibits the process of transformation from budding to invasive hyphae. |
